Here are some specific instructions you can use with self-hypnosis if you wish to stop smoking:

  1. During one of your sessions of self-induced relaxation, tell yourself that you have made a final decision to stop smoking—and that you are going to start now, not tomorrow or the next day and that you aren’t going to allow any exceptions—particularly if you want to give up smoking altogether.
  2. Repeat to yourself daily why you wish to stop smoking entirely. Did your doctor tell you to stop smoking? Do you suffer from a chronic cough, pains around the heart or any other condition that makes smoking contraindicated?
