SUGGESTION is the key to hypnotism.

We are all susceptible to being influenced by other persons in varying degrees. Consequently, hypnotic phenomena can be demonstrated in practically everyone. In some instances the person has to be conditioned to techniques of hypnosis and self-hypnosis. Everyone is influenced by his own thinking. It is this autosuggestible component in all of us that also makes self-hypnosis possible.
